Basic CBI Strategy

  3. Work with targeted individuals to develop a business plan, strategy, and kingdom impact for their local context.
    1. Must be a Believer and Church Member, have social accountability, have Pastor involvement, and understand expectations of tithing & being a witness.
  4. Train targeted individuals to start and operate a business.

Requirements & Considerations for Prospective Locations:

  1. A minimal in-country team will be required to cooperate with CBI and to share the commitment and mission of CBI.
    1. Define the “team” and roles.
Team needs to a) understand business in its own cultural environment.
Must b) possess leadership and c) ability hold people accountable.
Team needs to d) embrace the core mission of CBI (i.e. and make CBI disciples).
Must have a e) relationship and commitment to the growth of the local church.Example of possible Team Roles:  Person who understands business as it is conducted in that country (Entrepreneur); Person who provides spiritual accountability and grounded in the faith (Pastor); Person who understands banking, laws, and business principles (Businessman/Entrepreneur); Person who can share the vision for sharing Christ in the marketplace (Missionary); Person who has leadership skills to hold people accountable and obtain resources to keep the program ongoing (Leader with Business Skills).
  2. Sustainability
    1. Commitment to perpetuate Kingdom impact.
    2. Expectations for loans to be repaid, which allows for future businesses to be started.
    3. Does not mean the business must reproduce itself.
  3. Evaluate the culture to contextualize the program in cooperation with the local team.
  4. Customize the business principle curriculum for each culture.
  5. Understand the local government regulations and banking requirements for businesses.
  6. Have a defined exit strategy.  At the least… People are reaching people for Christ while operating a business.
  7. Determine if a partnership with an in-country organization would be advantageous, esp with resource planning, fund management, etc.
  8. Optional consideration:  Conduct the business training without including making loans, which would allow a broader audience to participate.
